"The Emancipation of Mimi", a contributory album from various producers like The Neptunes, Kanye West and Jermaine Dupri was Carey's ninth album released in 2005 and won her a Grammy Award in the category of 'Best Contemporary R&B Album'.
The album "cool, focused and urban"became a best seller in US. The single 'We Belong Together' from the album reached # 1 position on the Hot 100s and stayed there for fourteen consecutive weeks. Another single Don't Forget About Us became her seventeenth # 1 single in US equaling the record of most number-ones with Elvis Presley and left Mariah with just three singles behind Beatles who produced twenty number-one singles. Mariah Carey tried her luck in movies and first acted in a romantic comedy "The Bachelor" {1999} as an opera singer. Her other movies include the "Glitter" {2001} in which she played the character of a struggling musician. The movie was a big box-office failure and was rated as the worst movie at IMDb and won Mariah Carey her Razzie Award. Carey fared better in "Wise Girls" {2002} delivering her lines with perfect timing evoking laughter among the audience. She also appeared in "Death of a Dynasty" {2003} and "State Property 2" {2005} and "Tennessee" {2007}. |
